Performance Plastics Launches Proprietary Aircraft Maintenance Tools

Performance Plastics (“PPL”) is a world class injection molder out of Cincinnati, Ohio. Since its inception, PPL has been focused on solving its customers most challenging manufacturing problems. PPL’s customers rely on the company for its ultra or high performance injection molding thermoplastic expertise, tight tolerances and intricate or thin walled part geometries.

The company recently leveraged its proprietary injection molding capabilities to solve a decades-old problem in the aerospace industry. Aircraft maintenance personnel are not permitted to use metallic tools to remove coatings, adhesives, boots, gap fillers, tape residue, caulking, and other materials because metallic tools can cause damage to the underlying aluminum or composite aircraft substrate. This leads to expensive repairs and reduction of aircraft availability. For years, aircraft maintainers turned to sharpened acrylic, polycarbonate, fiber reinforced plastics, and other non-metallic removal tools, but nothing worked.

To tackle this issue, PPL created the patented EnduroSharp® line of
aircraft maintenance tools. These nonmetallic scraper tools hold a superior edge, allowing for effective removal of sealants, adhesives, and coatings. Made from Torlon®, one of the world’s most durable and chemically resistant thermoplastics, the tools also provide superior durability, something sorely lacking from conventional non metallic alternatives.
